From now on we will select our „Newcomer of the month“ monthly out of all the startups who subscribed themselves at startbase.de, our brandnew and very first digital startup patform. And our „Newcomer oft he month“ in February iiiissss……Belyntic!
What is Belyntic? Who are it’s founders and which advice do they have for young entrepreneurs? Here are 11 questions to Belyntic.
1. Why did you found your startup, which problem do you address and how do you solve it?
We were tackling issues with peptide purification in our own research – that was the trigger for us to think about new and easy ways for peptide purification. We developed a technology called „Peptide Easy Clean“. This chemical approach allows parallel purification of chemically synthesized peptides with high chemo-selectivity. The technology saves a lot of time and ressources.
2. What gave you the idea to found Belyntic?
We were friends from the university. Together we decided to start a chemistry business on our own. Looking into our research projects, we found the biggest overlap in expertise in the field of peptides. Looking for value generations in the field, we came up with the idea of a „HPLC-free“ peptide purification – the birth of „Peptide Easy Clean“.
3. What is special about your business-model, what are you doing differently?
The technology can be exploited in the form of purification kits for chemically synthesized peptide (the first ones worldwide of this kind), which we sell to customers from academia and pharmaceutical development and production. After 20 months development phase, we offered the first products in our online-shop. This fast access to the market boosted our development and maturation of the technology.
4. Which were the biggest challenges you needed to overcome in the beginning?
We are still working on our biggest challenge: convincing people to change their work-flow they had ever since. Our technology is replacing an old but reliable method to purify peptides, it is called HPLC. People just don’t see its disadvantages, just because they got used to them.
5. What was the most valuable advice somebody gave to you during your foundation phase?
There are three things investors look at: team, innovation and/or business model. The only thing that convinces for sure is the team!
6. What was your greatest success so far?
Hard to say, it is a continuous challenge. One success – let’s say the first sale – leads to another bigger thing.
7. What is your biggest need/your next challenge?
Finding and strengthening our position in the field. Our technology needs to be seen as a robust and efficient solution to purify peptides, not only for individual cases but for routine applications.
8. Why are you on VentureZphere?
9. What would you recommend other founders?
Be patient and always be confident that there is a solution. There will be a lot of challenges that make you think everything falls apart. I guess that’s normal.
10. Where did you meet?
We´ve known each other since the first year of university. Andreas joined the team in our EXIST Forschungstransfer period. He completed the founders team.
11. What went really wrong since you founded?
Everything and nothing. I think everything can be improved. Mistakes and failure induce progress. As long as you keep on learning, and being open for changes, the journey continues.
